Let’s Go: My Make Studio

Have some fon(dant) at Denver’s only decorate-it-yourself cake shop.

|

Since opening My Make Studio in 2015, owner Linda Sudowski has earned some serious bragging rights for operating Denver’s only decorate-it-yourself cake and cupcake shop, where walk-ins can make mouthwatering edible art during open-studio hours.

“Come in and decorate a single cupcake, if you”d like,” says Sudowski, noting that My Make Studio has been a popular daytime destination for parents with preschoolers. Sudowski gets it: Cooking with your kids is fun—until cleanup time comes. “At our studio, kids have free rein. They can make a huge mess using our supplies, and parents won’t have to worry about it,” she says.

The studio is equipped with more than a dozen icing colors and a dozen fondant colors. (Fondant—if you’re curious—is a malleable marshmallow concoction akin to edible play dough.) My Make Studio is stocked with hundreds of tools: rolling pins, impression maps and molds plus 500 cookie cutters. “And then there’s the candy wall,” adds Sudowski, referring to the portion of her space housing nearly 30 varieties of cake-topping candies.

My Make Studio’s pricing scheme is straightforward, and doesn’t require any add-on purchases. “Everything is all-inclusive,” Sudowski says. “Pay for your cupcake or cake, and you”ll get to decorate it with whatever you”d like.” Gluten-free and other specialty cupcakes and cakes are available; ensure they”re baked for your visit by emailing info@mymakestudio.com beforehand.

All-ages workshops—held weekly—are two-hour courses that focus on different decorating techniques, including piping, molding, and mixing. Comprehensive summer and school-day-off camps are offered for tweens and teens ages nine to 14.

Now through December 21, My Make Studio helps families deck the halls with its second annual gingerbread house workshop series. Two-hour sessions feature scratch-made houses baked with a decades-old family recipe, seasonal candies, and instruction from a studio hostess, eager to help guests with their holiday displays.
