3 Pizzerias Where Kids Can Build Their Own Pies

These local restaurants offer kids a make-it-yourself pizza experience.

|

Pizza is the ultimate unifier. Somehow a circle—or square—of dough with melty cheese and toasty toppings is able to please even the pickiest eaters. These local spots not only serve up cheesy, delicious pies, they also give kids a chance to get their hands in the pizza-making fun.

Blue Pan Pizza

Blue Pan specializes in Detroit-style pizza, distinguishable by a caramelized crust made by sprinkling three cheeses all the way to the crust’s edge. For $8, Blue Pan staff delivers dough, on a little pizza peel, to the table. Kids spread the pizza sauce, sprinkle on the cheese, and add one topping. Each creation is then baked to perfection. Kiddos can build more creations with Legos or color at the table while they wait. Additional pizza toppings are available for $1-$2. Two locations in metro Denver.

Crush Pizza & Tap

Formerly Denver Deep Dish, the pizza in this North Denver fast-casual pizzeria comes in three styles: Chicago, East Coast, and Sicilian. Owner and dad of three, Jason McGovern brings more family fun to his already kid-friendly restaurant with monthly pizza parties. On the second Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., $12 gets a child a small pizza to top with red sauce, cheese, and up to three toppings. A chalkboard drawing wall, puzzles, and games keep kids happy during the short wait for their pies. 1200 W. 38th Ave., Denver.

Mici Handcrafted Italian

Mici is a regular on family-favorite lists, with recipes passed down through the generations of the Miceli family. At each of the six locations, little diners get a ball of dough—made with five simple ingredients—to form into their own designs right at the table. No sauce or toppings here, but still lots of doughy fun. The staff bakes up the dough in the pizza oven and serves it warm. Kids eat free on Mondays—dough creations included—with purchase of an adult entree. Six locations in metro Denver.
