12 Places to See The Nutcracker This Season

Celebrate the holiday season with a performance of the classic ballet.

A holiday tradition among families all over the world, The Nutcracker follows Clara on a magical journey to the Land of Sweets. Coloradans can witness the beauty of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet at various performances around the Denver metro area, throughout the month of December.

Ballet Ariel: The Nutcracker

December 14-23. See the ballet performed to Tchaikovsky’ timeless score. $30-$38 adult. Lakewood Cultural Center, Lakewood.

Belliston Ballet: The Nutcracker

December 1, 1 p.m. See a 29-year tradition featuring students from throughout the Denver metro area, ranging in age from 8 to 18. $28-$38. Newman Center for the Performing Arts, Denver.

Boulder Ballet: The Nutcracker

December 1, 2 p.m. Witness a 30-year tradition in Boulder with professional dancers, elaborate sets, and music performed by the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. $15-$87. Macky Auditorium, Boulder.

Centennial State Ballet: The Nutcracker

December 20-22. See the Centennial State Ballet perform the classic story of Clara and her dreams that come true at Christmas time. $22-$40. Niwot High School, Niwot.

Colorado Ballet: The Nutcracker

November 30-December 29. Attend the 59th season of this holiday favorite and experience this whimsical trip to the Sugar Plum Kingdom where magical dances come alive. Age 4 and up. $40 and up. Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Denver.

Colorado Conservatory of Dance: The Nutcracker

December 14-22. See a production that includes professional guest artists from around the world. Following the performance, children are invited onstage to learn choreography from the production and to meet the dancers. $20 and up. Performing Arts Complex at Pinnacle Charter School, Denver.

Great Russian Nutcracker

December 13-14. Enjoy the Moscow Ballet company’s performance of the holiday classic. $29 and up. Paramount Theatre, Denver. 

International Youth Ballet: The Nutcracker

December 6-7. Witness award-winning dancers from the International Youth Ballet perform the classic holiday ballet. $35. Newman Center for the Performing Arts, Denver.

Nutcracker in a Nutshell

December 13-14. See the Foothills Youth Ballet Program’s presentation of a pared down version of the original story. $8-$10. Columbine High School, Littleton. 

The Nutcracker Circus

December 20-22. Experience a different kind of Nutcracker from MOTH Poetic Circus that combines acrobats, jugglers, and aerialists. A portion of the proceeds benefits Adam’s Camp. $35-$39. Newman Center for the Performing Arts, Denver.

The Nutcracker of Parker

December 12-21. Watch a production of the Tchaikovsky classic by the Colorado School of Dance. Age 8 and up. $26-$32. PACE Center, Parker.

The Story of the Nutcracker

November 30-December 21. See the original version of the story, in which young Marie and her Nutcracker Prince go on adventures. Kids get to meet, and take pictures with, the costumed cast before and after the production. Kids are also invited up on stage during certain scenes to be part of the action. Music from The Nutcracker Suite is used to set the tone for each scene. $12. Miners Alley Playhouse, Golden.
