Take an hour or two to slow down and relax with the family by taking in a holiday show. Here are five must-see holiday productions playing in the Denver area this season, all of which offer a little something special for everyone in the family—and a much needed break from holiday planning.

A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage

December 22

See the animated holiday classic come to life on stage in this touring production, making a stop in Denver on December 22. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang come together to uncover the true meaning of Christmas. Fans of the classic animated TV special will be happy to see their favorite scenes come to life before their eyes, as well as enjoy new original songs which complete the show. $30-$50. Paramount Theatre, Denver. 

A Christmas Carol: The Musical

November 22 through December 22

Introduce the kids to the story of Ebenezer Scrooge in this family-friendly production. This musical version of Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale follows Scrooge on his path to redemption, as he encounters the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future. It’s sure to be a delight for all ages. Note: The show is appropriate for young children; however, some scenes may cause a scare or two for younger viewers. $53 and up. Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Arvada.

Cirque Dreams Holidaze

November 22 through January 4, 2020

Witness impressive aerial acts and breathtaking stunts, accompanied by Broadway-worthy singing and dancing, in a spectacular theatrical experience full of holiday cheer. The costumes steal the show, transforming performers into toy soldiers, snowmen, penguins, reindeer, gingerbread, and more. Don’t miss the debut of Gingerbread Woman, a costume designed by nine-year-old Layla Stark of Broomfield, which makes an on-stage appearance on December 3. $29 and up. Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center, Aurora.

Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical

December 3-8

A heart-warming holiday musical for all ages, see the timeless story of The Grinch come to life on stage and watch as he discovers the true meaning of Christmas. Max the Dog narrates the story, as the mean and scheming Grinch—whose heart is “two sizes too small”—decides to steal Christmas away from the holiday-loving Whos down in Whoville. With sets and costumes inspired by Dr. Seuss’ original illustrations, the show is a must-see for Broadway fans young and old. $35 and up. Buell Theatre, Denver.

Twas the Night Before Christmas

December 24

Catch the national tour of Ken Ludwig’s Twas the Night Before Christmas as it makes a stop in Denver on—the most fitting date for its name—December 24. The new stage adaptation brings a modern twist to the classic Christmas poem. Find out what happens when Santa’s naughty and nice list goes missing, with a new trio of characters: a mouse, a wacky elf, and a little girl who are determined to save the day before Santa boards his sleigh. $30-$60. Paramount Theatre, Denver.
