Tween Birthday Party Ideas

Four totally not lame birthday party ideas that tweens will love.

Punch Bowl Social

With old-school entertainment, culinary refinement and a stellar beverage program, this hip concept has been entertaining grown-ups and fun-loving families since opening in the Baker neighborhood in 2012. For a sophisticated tween soiree, reserve space at Punch Bowl Social, and have a blast bowling, playing arcade games or jamming at a private karaoke session. Catered buffets and drink packages are available for private functions. 65 Broadway, Denver

ABC Kids Climbing

Climb to new heights with an unforgettable party featuring bouldering and rope climbing for all ability levels. Standard indoor climbing packages start at $25 per child, and include an hour and a half of climbing instruction with a seasoned guide—some are professional climbers—along with climbing games, shoe and harness rentals and use of a party room for eight or more guests. Deluxe and outdoor packages are also available. 1960 32nd St., Boulder

Adams Mystery Playhouse

Dinner theater is cool at Denver’s only all-age appropriate playhouse featuring interactive mysteries written just for preteens. When it comes to birthday shows, the guest of honor picks a kid-friendly mystery: Steampunk Murder, Zombie Murder or Mystery Mansion, for example. Guests receive clue packets with activities to complete during the show. After the finale, audience members vote on whodunit—and pick a punishment for the perpetrator. 2406 Federal Blvd., Denver

Art Garage

At this crafty nonprofit, tweens get messy while creating unique art projects under the auspices of a local practicing artist. Parties start at $50 per hour, with added fees per guest based on the art activity, which could be anything from ceramics to junk sculpture to canvas collage. Creative guests of honor can even invent their own project. All art supplies are included, and parties for 10 to 20 kids last two hours and include time for cake (it’s BYO). 6100 E. 23rd Ave., Denver
