Remember when you used to play outside all summer in the woods only to return home tired, covered in dirt, and oh-so-happy? Camp Backcountry is the spot for a build-a-fort, hike-just-to-explore, and don’t-forget-your-binoculars kind of summer for your kids. Located on the fringe of the Denver metro area in Highlands Ranch, the Camp Backcountry Base Camp is nestled into our 8,200-acre wildlife conservation property just south of C-470 on Santa Fe Drive.

As campers grow with us each summer, so do their adventures. Nature Camps are the starting points for our youngest campers (starting at age 7), where they mix learning about ecosystems and habitats with live animal encounters, traditional camp games, and age-appropriate adventures. Expedition Camps, for kids ages 11-13, include bigger hikes, overnight campouts, and off-site excursions like rock climbing and paddleboarding. And if you have a teen, look at our Leaders-in-Training program and a Teen Leadership camp. Our Leader-in-Training program is a multi-week mentorship program and our Teen Leadership Camp offers youth the opportunity to learn to contribute to our community, wrangle whitewater rapids, and gain volunteer hours, all in the same week. Camp Backcountry is also the spot for youth with specific interests like art and horses. Our fast-filling, multi-level Horse Camps are ideal for first-time equestrians as well as kids who are saddle-savvy.

No matter which camp fits your kid, we want them to leave Camp Backcountry with a passion for the outdoors that drives them to want to escape to the mountains and forests to play just as much as they want to protect and conserve it for generations to come.

Our day camps run Monday through Friday, from May 28 through August 9. Regular camp hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with before and after care offered from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
