Where to Treat Dad This Father’s Day

There's a wide range of activities for dads and their kids in metro Denver this Father’s Day weekend, June 15-16. Pick one or a couple and treat Dad on his special day.

Whether Dad has a need for speed, loves to work with his hands, or tells the corniest dad jokes you’ve ever heard, the Denver metro area has a number of fun events for the entire family. Read on for some offerings around town to treat Dad this Father’s Day weekend.

For the active dad:

» Get Dad’s adrenaline pumping at this year’s Father’s Day Classic on Sunday, June 16. Races include a 5K, 10K, 1 mile fun run, and the the Manly Mile—a timed mile for men only, with an award for the winner. Dad can put his bean bag skills to the test during a cornhole contest the day of the race—the prize for the winner is a 60-minute massage at Elements Massage Arvada. For the carnivore dad:

» The Colorado BBQ Challenge takes place in Frisco over Father’s Day weekend, June 13-15. The free three-day festival includes more than 70 barbecue masters, live music, pig races, kids activities, a firefighter cook off, and chef demos.

Smok’s brisket sandwich

» Located inside The Source, the barbecue joint Smok is treating dads dining with their kids on June 16. Dads get a free chopped brisket sandwich with fries, with a $2 beer, while kids chow down on fried hush puppies. 3330 Brighton Blvd., Denver

» Noonan’s Sports Bar and Grill in Aurora is celebrating Father’s Day by grilling and smoking meats on their spacious patio, June 16, noon to 5 p.m. As a bonus, all dads get their second drink free. 13521 E. Iliff Ave., Aurora
Steuben’s steak entree

» Both Steuben’s locations are offering dads a Sunday Steak Special on June 16, complete with a steak entree, house or Caesar salad, and a Steuben’s cupcake for $25. Dads are also treated to a free draft beer. Two locations in Uptown and Arvada

For the culinary dad:

» Take Dad to the Union Station Farmers’ Market on June 15, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., to get all of the ingredients for a farm fresh meal at home. With live music and chef demos, you can get the party started at the market, and take it home as you enjoy farm fresh produce, baked goods, and local meat. 1701 Wynkoop St., Denver

For the jokester dad:

» Get the whole family laughing at Comedy Works’ Father’s Day Family Show featuring Kevin Fitzgerald, a comedian who has opened for Bob Hope, Diana Ross, and The Temptations.. All ages are welcome to the show at 3 p.m. on June 16. Tickets are $7-$14. 5345 Landmark Place, Greenwood Village

For the crafty dad:

Balefire Goods leather bracelets

» Watch the Rockies face off against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field June 14 through 16.

For the brunch-loving dad:

» ViewHouse Centennial is hosting a Father’s Day brunch buffet on June 16, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The buffet features a meat carving station, seafood towers, and build-your-own omelettes and waffle stations. $37 adults, $10 kids ages six to 12, and free age five and under. 7101 S. » ViewHouse Littleton is having a Father’s Day brunch party on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 16. Max’s Wine Dive breakfast burrito

» Max’s Wine Dive is adding a one-day-only brunch dish to the menu on June 16. Their special Father’s Day breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs, potatoes, green chile, and cheese. 696 Sherman St., Denver

For the spirited dad:

» Gift dad with a ticket to Cask Thief at Stranahan’s on June 22, for a special reveal of some of Stranahan’s rarest barrels, hand selected by Stranahan’s master distiller. The evening includes six cask whiskey tastings, a pig roast on a used Stranahan’s barrel, Stranahan’s Brickle ice cream, live music, games, and a demonstration from a barrel cooper. $70 general admission, $90 VIP.
