Kids Cookbook

A kids cookbook is a great starting point to get kids interested in cooking. Try The Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs by America’s Test Kitchen Kids ($20, Source Books 2018) or Complete Children’s Cookbook ($25, DK 2015), which both feature more than 100 easy-to-follow recipes, helpful tips for beginning cooks, and step-by-step photos.

Tools

All chefs need tools, and young chefs need tools that are just the right size for them. Williams Sonoma’s Junior Chef cooking sets are the perfect size for kids and feature a variety of options from bakeware and cooking gadgets to pots and pans and wooden tools. Set prices range from $16-$200.

Speaking of tools, a good starter knife is ideal for teaching kids how to chop safely. Opinel’s Le Petit Chef collection features a knife with a rounded tip and a ring to teach kids where to place their finger to prevent injury. Apron

Let’s face it, kids and cooking can get messy. Wearing an apron in the kitchen does double duty: kids feel like “real” chefs and it helps protect clothing and keep it clean.
