Treats for National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day 2020

Explore metro Denver one delicious chewy bite at a time to celebrate this childhood favorite.

Do you really need a reason to eat a chocolate chip cookie? Probably not, but August 4 is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, and that’s reason enough to explore some of the chocolate chip cookie (3C) treats around the metro. Pour a glass of milk, here are some ways to celebrate on Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, or any day.

Chocolate Chip and Vanilla Sammie

Little Man Ice Cream Factory

No need for a side of milk, these chocolate chip cookies come with a creamy, cool helping of Little Man Vanilla ice cream smooshed in the middle. Little Man makes their cookies (and all the baked elements of their treats) on site in the Factory bakery, from all-natural, locally sourced ingredients. Even frozen, they retain a nice chewy texture filled with rich chocolate bites. This is a post about chocolate chip cookies, but if 3C and vanilla isn’t your cup of milk, Little Man offers other delicious Sammie flavors. Try the chocolate cookie with a smash of Salted Oreo ice cream or the peanut butter cookies with chocolate ice cream in between… or heck, just try them all.

If you’re lucky enough to get your order in early on a Monday, you can wow the kids with these rocky mountain-size cookies. In a state notorious for flat cookies and high-altitude baking struggles, these tall treats really stand up. The flavors include traditional favorites and mouth-watering new combos and vary from week to week. Watch for the Monday morning (8 a.m.) update to learn the week’s flavors, although chocolate chip pops up almost weekly. This is a small-batch local company, so once the week’s cookie quota has been spoken for, you’ll be waiting another week to order. (But it’s totally worth the wait.) We scored a box the week they offered Chocolate Chip, Triple Chocolate, Walnut White Chocolate, and Peach Cobbler. Order in a 4, 8, or 12 pack, but be aware that each cookie is big enough to share. We literally sliced the cookie into wedges.

Crumbl Cookies’ Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie

Crumbl Cookies

Under typical conditions, the 10 Crumbl Cookies locations in Colorado give visitors a glimpse of cookies in the making as they bake them on-site. With Covid restrictions in place, you can still pop in to pick up cookies or order ahead for curbside pickup, and it’s worth the stop. The soft, perfectly-baked milk-chocolate chip cookies are what you dream of when you imagine the ultimate chocolate chip cookie. There is a rotating menu of cookie flavors each week, but you’ll always find the milk chocolate chip served warm (and a frosted sugar cookie). And if you want to send a friend a warm socially-distanced greeting, Crumbl also ships the cookies. To celebrate National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, Crumbl is offering 20 percent off in-store and curbside 4-pack purchases on Aug 4.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

Sweet Cow

If your favorite part of chocolate chip cookies is the dough, here’s another cookies and milk all-in-one. Head to Sweet Cow Ice Cream and ask for a scoop (or two) of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor. The vanilla ice cream base is loaded with nuggets of chocolatey-chippie dough – the perfect balance of cold, creamy, and chewy. Sweet Cow hand crafts all of their concoctions on site with locally sourced ingredients, so you don’t have to worry about the kids slurping up weird, unknown fillers. If the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor isn’t chocolately enough, watch the flavor board for the Chocolate-Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream– delish!

Pizookie

BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse

Yes, BJ’s Restaurants are part of a national chain, but we have to talk about the Pizookie. This dessert is a chocolate chunk cookie baked thick in a deep dish pizza pan and served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It’s crunchy, chewy, and soft all at once. BJ’s claims to have created this ice cream and cookie dessert, and over the years has expanded their Pizookie menu to nearly a dozen different flavor combinations. I still go for the original – it’s like taste nostalgia to bite into a 3C warm from the oven. Sign up for BJ’s Premier Rewards Plus to get a free Pizookie, then another Pizookie freebie on your birthday.
