Colorado Parent Brings Home 13 PMA Awards

The magazine wins Silver overall at the Parenting Media Association Design and Editorial Awards.

On March 2, 2018, the Colorado Parent team was honored with 13 awards at the annual Parenting Media Association (PMA) Design and Editorial Awards ceremony in St. Petersburg, Florida. Among the awards, Colorado Parent took second overall (Silver) for General Excellence among other big-city publications (with a distribution of 45,000 or more), surpassing last year’s bronze award in this category. “We love creating Colorado Parent magazine for local families,” says Deborah Mock, editor. “This staff is a dedicated team of people who truly believe in the importance of producing an outstanding resource for the community. The recognition from PMA is thrilling; it’s the icing on the cake.”

PMA is a nonprofit organization representing the family media market since 1988. “Our awards recognize the best work done in our industry,” says PMA president Mary Cox. “Our member publications engage with families throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia, be it through print, websites, email, social media, and events. Our collective goal is to make parenting easier—after all, it’s the most important job in the world—and even more of a fun ride.”

The Design and Editorial Awards are judged each year through the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism, ranked as one of the top journalism schools in the country.

“Thirteen seems to be our lucky number; we celebrated 13 PMA awards last year as well,” says Christina Cook, assistant editor. “We couldn’t have done it without the hard work and dedication of our incredible staff, and we hope to bring our readers even more award-winning content this year.”

Colorado Parent is locally-owned by 5280 Publishing, which also produces 5280, 5280 Home, 5280 Health, and 5280 Traveler.
